D is for Dog Point Vineyard, an emerging star in Marlborough founded by Ivan Sutherland and James Healy, who were both leading lights at iconic winery Cloudy Bay. Dog Point's complex, barrel- and lees- aged Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc is arguably one of the finest examples of this variety made in New Zealand (and hence in the world). The recently released 2007 Section 94 is the best yet, while its latest Chardonnay (2007) will set a new benchmark for the variety in Marlborough. And it doesn't make a half-bad pinot noir either.
