Dog Point Pinot Noir 2005
1 Jun 2007 (Gourmet Traveller Wine)
5 stars. 94 points. Dog Point is a partnership between viticulturist Ivan Sutherland and winemaker James Healy, both formerly of Cloudy Bay. Sutherland owns extensive Marlborough vineyards from which the cream of the crop is reserved for this label. This is terrific pinot noir. It has masses of ripe red cherry flavours with a seasoning of very classy oak. The wine is bright, fresh, softly textured and has that most elusive quality: subtle power. Only the third vintage of pinot noir produced by Dog Point. Every one has been a winner, but this is the best yet.
