Dog Point Section 94 2002

30 Mar 2004 (Epicure Uncorked)
Category: Dog Point Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc
Posted by: dogpoint

WINE OF THE WEEK Rating: 5 stars $$$

Dog Point comes from two of the most respected names in New Zealand wine, viticulturist Ivan Sutherland and oenologist James Healy. Both formerly of Cloudy Bay, they know a thing or two about high quality Marlborough region wines. Their Dog Point range is the most impressive new release I've seen in yonks and Section 94 might be the star. It's superbly subtle sauvignon blanc, matured in imported old French oak. The lush nose is complex but restrained at the same time. Understated passionfruit and paw-paw aromas provide varietal clues but hints of lime and light earthiness add savoury charm. The palate has lovely texture and soft, smooth flavour, finishing long and complete.

Ageing? Drinks beautifully now.

Food Ideas: Mussels mariniere; Chinese steamed fish with ginger and spring onion.
