Dog Point Chardonnay 2004

Wine Of The Week. 5 Stars. In Australia and New Zealand an increasing number of the best winemakers are eschewing the “bottled sunshine” type of fruity chardonnay in favour of something more mysterious and complex. They achieve this by employing the sort of low-tech yet labour-intensive methods of their French counterparts in Burgundy have used for generations. Dog Point showcases the genre beautifully, in a complex yet subtle manner. Citrus, melon and stone fruit characters are interwoven with burnt-match, nutty toffee, creamy and smooth oak elements. It has velvety mouthfeel and a deliciously lingering, fine aftertaste. A classy upmarket chardonnay at a fair price.

Aging: Drink over 2 years plus. Food: Soft cheeses, sautéed scallops.
