Dog Point Pinot Noir 2008

Vic Williams, Wine NZ (Winter 2010)

Reviewed by Vic Williams

Experienced wine folk Ivan and Margaret Sutherland and James and Wendy Healy have established a solid name with wine enthusiasts for their small but perfectly formed range of wines. This member of the portfolio has a dash of something like eucalyptus on the nose, but speaks mainly of richly ripe fruit. It's beautifully focused on the palate, with gentle tannins adding just the right amount of grip. Slow-cooked lamb shoulder, studded before it hits the oven with slivers of garlic, strips of anchovy and sprigs of rosemary, would be perfect on the plate alongside the glass.
